Melanotus rufipes

Melanotus rufipes is a black Click Beetle. There are other species in the genus Melanotus and they are all black. It is not easy to tell the species apart, but by looking at the hairs at the body, the general shape and size and some other characteristics, experts are usually able to tell the various species apart. They are even able to do so from pictures, provided enough characteristics are visible. Measuring some 15 mm Melanotus villosus has the size of the ordinary Click Beetle in Western Europe. We found little about this species on the internet, except that the larvae live in rotting wood and do not cause damage in agriculture.
